If and when you can find one, the Nintendo Wii is still one of the hottest pieces of gaming hardware. The unique motion control system has made the console a hit with hardcore and casual gamers alike, and a surprisingly strong slate of launch titles along with a few other gems make for a lineup of awesome Nintendo Wii games that everyone who owns the console should play. Here are a few of the best:
Super Smash Bros. Brawl Nintendo Wii Games – Smash Bros. Is a bit of a dichotomy – it's arguably the most popular game for the Wii, has a huge fan following, and has been selling in numbers that make other games weep openly, but it eschews the control mechanics that make the Wii so innovative. Even so, Brawl is one of the best Nintendo Wii games on shelves right now and one of the few to take advantage of the Wii's online capabilities. The premise of Smash is simple – popular Nintendo characters (along with Solid Snake and Sonic the Hedgehog in this outing) duke it out in fast-paced matches of up to four fighters. It's simple to control and a great game for parties. It also works with your Classic Controllers or GameCube controllers, so you can host a Smash Bros. throwdown without breaking your bank on spare Wii remotes.
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 – Thought DBZ:BK2 came out at the same time as the Wii hardware did, it's still one of the best traditional fighting games available for the console. Even if you're not a Dragon Ball fan, there's plenty to like in the intuitive motion controls and striking cel-shaded graphics. If you are a DBZ fanatic, this game has a comprehensive roster of fighters and a story mode that follows the classic anime's continuity. The Budokai Tenkaichi series has the distinction of being one of the best third-party series of Nintendo Wii games.
No More Heroes Nintendo Wii Games – The newest game from maverick developer Suda 51 is a madcap ultra-violent action game that delivers on the promise of intuitive motion-control in Nintendo Wii games hinted at in the also-excellent The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Using traditional controls to navigate and the Wii remote and nunchuk to perform special finishing moves and minigames is fun, effective, and immersive. The M rating means it's not for everybody, but it's destined for cult classic status.
