CODED ARMS by Konami, the first first-person shooter for the PSP, sends players into cyberspace to destroy a number of viruses that are trying to corrupt the six different virtual worlds. To escape from each world, players must defeat the Gatekeeper, a powerful program that guards the exit. CODED ARMS uses randomly generated dungeons to create each of the six virtual worlds. Enemy viruses, which range from flying insect-like enemies to men, roam through the levels, but fortunately, the game provides over 30 different weapons for players to find and use, although some of them must be unlocked by clearing stages. In addition to weapons, there are also health items and other power-ups scattered across the map or dropped by enemies after they explode into computer code. The game features multiplayer modes, as well. Players can select from a set of created maps or have one randomly generated. There are three modes: deathmatch, last man standing, and a hot potato-like game where the player who has the ball is the target. Players can set options like which weapons are available or allow players to bring their own weapons from the single-player mode into the multiplayer arena. For players who enjoy a good first person shooter, CODED ARMS provides a compelling storyline, challenging battles, and a fun multiplayer mode. When combined with the PSP’s portability, CODED ARMS becomes a must-have game.
