Sega returns to the world of battling WORMS with WORMS: Forts Under Siege for the PS2. This time, players have a fortress to protect while destroying enemy worms. The main action of WORMS: Forts Under Siege is the same as previous WORMS games: players control an army of worms bent on destroying their opponents with weapons like bazookas, grenades, and exploding sheep. The main change is the addition of the fortresses. Now players can create towers, hospitals, and other defensive structures. Each building gives players specific abilities such as new weapons, long range attacks, or healing injured worms. Enemies can also build these structures, so players have to think about on destroying enemy buildings as well. Each player begins with a stronghold, and if it’s destroyed, the game is over. The game has three different modes: there’s the single-player campaign mode that puts players in control of an army of worms; there’s the Trial Mode, where players have to accomplish certain goals before other teams do; and finally, there’s multiplayer mode, which supports four players. This mode can also be played singly by assigning the other three players to the AI. Players can also customize the game statistics, changing things like worm health, turn length, and weapons abilities. Whether you’re a WORMS fan or not, WORMS: Forts Under Siege is a lot of silly fun with all the strategy of a more serious simulation game.
