RPG master Square-Enix is best known for its FINAL FANTASY and DRAGON WARRIOR series, but every now and then they release a new game that doesn’t fit into either of these groups. DRAKENGARD 2 is such an game, combining RPG-like character development with action-adventure game play. But with a long story, multiple endings, and many challenging battles, the game is on par with both of the more well-known series. Players take on the role of young Nowe, a boy who was raised by Legna, a dragon. Nowe was eventually found by a general in the Knights of the Seal, who, as Nowe soon discovers, aren’t quite as idealistic and peaceful as they first seem. However, they do hold the important job of maintaining the five seals that imprison the great red dragon. After learning of a plot to unseal the dragon, Nowe and Legna find themselves batting many foes to save the world. Just like in the first DRAKENGARD, players will slash their way across ground forces and take to the sky in aerial fights. In addition to Nowe, three other characters enter into the storyline as players progress through the 12 chapters. Players can switch between characters with the touch of a button, and summoning Legna is also as simple. Each of the four characters has their own special powers and strengths, so players will find themselves swapping characters often. These new characters plus a long, twisting play make DRAKENGARD 2 a great action RPG for fantasy lovers.
