TOM CLANCY’S SPLINTER CELL: Chaos Theory for the Game Cube is the third in Ubisoft’s series based on the novel SPLINTER CELL. Once again, players take on the role of Secret Agent Sam Fisher to protect world peace by traveling across the globe to uncover the truth behind international incidents. While much of the gameplay and concepts will be familiar to players who have played other SPLINTER CELL games, there are a few new additions. Fisher now carries a combat knife that he can use to threaten enemies or stab them, and his melee attacks have also been upgraded. Another addition to the game is one some frustrated players will enjoy: if Fisher doesn’t have a key card to get through a particular door, he can hack the electronic lock or destroy it with his knife. Each mission also presents players with different options for completing the objective, and players can equip Fisher with specific items for stealth or attack depending on the level. The co-op mode also features some innovative ideas. Players can do more than just attack enemies; they can boost each other up over walls, toss one another across wide chasms, and execute other moves that allow players to reach areas they couldn’t otherwise get to. Fans of third person shooters like METAL GEAR will feel right at home in SPLINTER CELL, and fans of the other Tom Clancy games and novels should definitely check out Sam Fisher’s new adventures in TOM CLANCY’S SPLINTER CELL: Chaos Theory.
